The Gabriola Island Kyokushin Dojo (training hall) started informally in 2005 with a couple of island families getting together for fun and exercise. All weekly classes are now held at the Community Hall. A Friday night “Fighting and Fitness Fun” session is also available for members.
Students are encouraged to train hard and challenge themselves while having fun. Respect, for self and others, is the underlying philosophy in the club.
Gradings for new belt levels are held several times a year. There are opportunities to enter tournaments and attend camps. Special classes like beach training, breaking techniques, specialized self defence and tournament fighting are held periodically.
We hold a yearly fundraising “kick-a-thon” that everyone is encouraged to participate in. Social activities are held after significant events and occasionally just for fun.
“A black belt is a white belt that never gave up – Just enjoy the journey.”
